In a world of complicated health jargon we find that Senior home care services and its true meaning sometimes gets lost. The reality is, it is a general term that means different things based on the needs of your loved one.

As seniors age, they deal with everyday challenges like the chores of grocery shopping, staying up with hygiene and general mobility. For this you probably need homemaker services, companion services, or personal care services. This may be on a part-time or full-time basis.

With each passing day, your aging loved one is further removed from their youth and yours. They are no longer the parent or grandparent you have known for your whole life. Their relatives and friends are gone. Tasks that were once easy for them are now difficult. They seem alone and helpless. Home care services can restore their connection and confidence. But pride may prevent them from seeking assistance on their own. You may also hesitate to help based on respect for them or similar insistence that everything is OK. Even if you both want to ignore them though, you really cannot overlook these signs that your loved one may need home care services.

Four Ways to Choose the Right Caregiver

A home care professional is responsible for the safety and well-being of a senior. They have unfettered access to the senior, their home and all their belongings. They may also drive the senior to appointments.  Hiring the right in-home caregiver for you or a loved one requires you to place a lot of trust in the professional whom you choose. You should always ask a home care professional the following questions, to ensure you get the appropriate type of care support:

  • What kind of services do you provide?
  • Do you provide services to people in their homes, nursing homes or assisted living communities?
  • Are services available 24 hours, 7 days a week?
  • Can I change or discontinue the services my loved one receives?
  • Will I have a choice of who comes to my home?

Take the following steps before hiring a home care agency.
